Selection of films from art residencies and training courses
10/04 - PR Start: Class(room) reuse. The retrospective at Scena, Spazio della regione Lazio
Organised by the Fondazione Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico, the first review entirely dedicated to films on the creative reuse of images produced by young authors under 35 in the field of education is born.
The growing attention that university courses, academies, film schools, workshops and artistic residencies are dedicating to reflection and work with pre-existing images is at the basis of this initiative, which aims on the one hand to offer a representative panorama of this cultural liveliness, and on the other hand to give an opportunity for public promotion to the many young authors who are often trying their hand for the first time with the re-use of archive images.
It may seem like a paradox, but cinema made with images from the past is increasingly catalyzing the creativity of future authors. But in fact, if we look closely, the possibility of accessing large deposits of images and using them freely, allows for new readings and new narratives, even critical of consolidated ones, capable of activating processes of deconstruction and reconstruction of film sources in a strongly contemporary key, which today more than ever attract the creativity of young filmmakers.
Class(room) reuse is part of the now fertile line of training activities for the creative reuse of the Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement, such as the Cesare Zavattini Award (a training and development path for works by authors under 35) and the artistic residency UnArchive Suoni e Visioni (dedicated to filmmakers and composers under 35 active in the Italian scene) and consolidates the relationship between the Foundation film schools and training courses in the national artistic-cinematographic field, feeding the research activity for new works and young authors that Aamod carries out inside and outside its activities, starting with the festival.
