The film traces McElwee’s relationship with his son Adrian and the fragile bond the camera created between them when Adrian was alive and now that he is gone. Drawing on decades of footage, some shot by Ross, some by Adrian, the film becomes a layered exploration of memory and image-making. Acting as a common thread is the ghost of another project: a failed attempt by Hollywood to adapt McElwee’s 1986 classic for film, <\/span>Sherman’s March<\/span><\/i>. Ross McElwee is an American documentary filmmaker whose work blends autobiography, cultural observation and humor. His breakthrough film, Sherman’s March<\/em>, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
