Pietro Marcello was born in Caserta. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. Il Passaggio della linea<\/i>, presented at the 2007 Venice Film Festival – Orizzonti section – won numerous awards. In 2009 he made the feature film La bocca del lupo<\/i>, winner of the 27th Turin Film Festival, the Caligari Prize and the Teddy Bear at the Berlinale. In 2011 he made The Silence of Pele\u0161jan<\/i>, presented as a special event at the 68th Venice Film Festival. In 2015 he made the film Beautiful and Lost,<\/i> presented at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2019 he makes his first fiction feature Martin Eden<\/i>, from Jack London’s novel of the same name, which wins numerous awards including Coppa Volpi at the Venice Film Festival to Luca Marinelli, Platform Prize Toronto International Film Festival 2019. In 2021 he made the documentary Per Lucio, <\/i>presented in the Berlinale Special section of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival. Also in 2021, it was presented at the Fortnight <\/i>des R\u00e9alisateurs in Cannes the film Futura, a <\/i>collective investigation made by Pietro Marcello, Francesco Munzi and Alice Rohrwacher. In 2022 he made and premiered as the opening film at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight The Scarlet Sails<\/i>.
