Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news, and this is how the story of newsreel began. The name Path\u00e9 originates from a network of French businesses run by the Path\u00e9 Brothers in 1896. The company was established as Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Path\u00e9 Fr\u00e8res in Paris by the four Path\u00e9 brothers Charles, \u00c9mile, Th\u00e9ophile and Jacques. During the first decades of the 20th century Path\u00e9 was the largest film equipment and production company in the world &#8211; as well as a major producer of phonograph records.
