Alessandro D’Alessandro’s music, contemporary folk psychedelia, in which the sound of roots is mixed with electronics, original writing, and an ongoing search for the sounds. He developed his ‘prepared organ’ over years of work and study, always relating to disparate worlds.
In VisionAria all of this will be projected within the images, which in theirintrinsic nature, escape reduction to a single narrative; they are, instead, objects open to multiple interpretations. When faced with the most complex images, those countless times observed, analyzed, and narrated, it might be useful to take a different approach.
Abandoning, even momentarily, the perspective of those who have gone before us and looking at them through a personal lens, our own eyes, might reveal unexplored and meaningful stories for ourselves.
Gianluca Abbate’s video projections that will accompany the music and sounds of Alessandro D’Alessandro aim to unite different eras and styles. Live visuals will develop narratively throughout the course of the performance. This will be made possible through the use of different techniques ranging from cut-outs to animated collage. The fusion of tradition and modernity, in line with the music, with the use of computer graphics, live footage, inserts from other films, archival images, mixing color and black and white, will bring the visual narrative to life. Alessandro D’Alessandro began the study of the accordion at the age of nine, in Coreno Ausonio, his home town located in the cultural-historical border area that is Lower Lazio, where he began to learn the first rudiments of the instrument from the great heritage of tradition. Always interested in a wide variety of musical forms, «he is unanimously considered one of the most talented Italian organists», particularly appreciated for his technique, versatility and timbral research. An explorer and experimenter of sounds, he pioneered the use of electronics applied to the accordion. He created an original percussion system for the accordion, which combined with continuous modulation of sounds, through the use of effects, loops and various objects ‘applied’ directly to the instrument, he called ‘prepared accordion,’ exploiting a term generally in use in the contemporary music.

He has written and performed music for film, theater, perfomative arts, and literature.
Gianluca Abbate is an experimental film artist and director. In 2016, he won a Silver Ribbon and in 2015 the award for best short film at the Torino Film Festival. In 2020 he was awarded the Golden Ephebe for New Languages and the Goethe Film Award at the Zebra Poetry Film Festival in Berlin. His films have been shown at the Ann Arbor festival in the United States, MAXXI in Rome, MMOMA – Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, MOCA Hiroshima, Palais de Tokyo, and broadcast on ARTE France. He created the graphic identity for RAI’s Stati Generali and Serena Dandini’s La TV Delle Ragazze. He has lectured at the Civic School of Cinema in Milan, the IED in Rome, the Academy of Fine Arts in Frosinone and currently teaches at RomaTre University.
