A dreamlike essay film on the history of the doorbell, tracing the history of its birth and its constant reinventions through the labor struggles of the 19th century, the nascent years of narrative cinema, and contemporary cultures of surveillance.

Graeme Arnfield
Graeme Arnfield is a London-based artist, filmmaker and composer who grew up in Cheshire, UK. He works on sensory essay films from networked images; his films use investigative storytelling methods to explore issues related to technology, ecology and history. His research topics have covered: the politics of digital networks, the distribution of ecological matter such as peat and asbestos, and the adaptive circulation of global and local histories. His work has been presented worldwide, including the Berlinale Forum Expanded, the IFFR, the Courtisane Festival, the Open City Documentary Festival, the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, the Sonic Acts Festival, the European Media Arts Festival, the Transmediale, IMPAKT Festival, Kasseler Dokfest, Plastik Festival, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, LUX, Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), Berlinische Gallerie, Signal Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, and on e-flux & Vdrome. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Experimental Cinema from Kingston University.
