The First Times
Le prime volte / Giulia Cosentino, Perla Sardella / Italy, Spain / 16’ / 2025
Emilia writes to Catherine about her desire; Catherine writes to Emilia long afterwards going back to the last time she saw her on her wedding day. Two imagined letters that were never sent recount, each from her own point of view, the two womenʼs shared childhood spent at a girlsʼ boarding school. The days flowed monotonously and the same, except at night, when, at the chimes of the boarding schoolʼs clock, Emilia and Catherine met, far from the gaze of their companions and the surrounding world that did not contemplate their desire to discover each other in each otherʼs bodies. The images and sounds of that secret time return, fueling the desire to tell each other the things they never said. The two women, now distant, question their own imagery, trying to reconcile with a farewell to that first love and those first times.
