A State Film
Film di stato / Roland Sejko / Italy / 2025 / 78′
Since the end of World War II and for more than forty years, the history of Albania has been inextricably intertwined with that of one man: Enver Hoxha, who led the country through ephemeral alliances and radical ruptures until he led it into total isolation. State Film recounts those forty years of Albania’s communist regime through the images that power produced to narrate itself. Constructed entirely from often unpublished archival materials-official propaganda films, footage from the confidential or private funds of the nomenklatura-the film is a journey in image and sound within a regime that made cinema an instrument of power. What are those same images capable of telling us today?
