In 1973, Norwegian filmmaker and former actress Vibeke Løkkeberg attended the First International Seminar on Women’s Cinema in Berlin, taking a film crew with her to document this event, crucial to the dawn of the feminist film movement. Rediscovered nearly 50 years later, this forgotten footage reveals a treasure trove of authentic stories that capture the difficulties, ambitions and dreams of women who were entering a male-dominated field. Made into a feature film, The Long Road to the Director’s Chair weaves these historical voices into a timeless narrative about resilience, creativity, and the ongoing struggle for gender equality in the arts.

Vibeke Lokkeberg
Born in 1945 in Bergen, Norway, Vibeke Lokkeberg is one of Norway’s most prolific filmmakers, authors and cultural icons. Married to producer Terje Kristiansen and mother to Tonje (b. 1975) and Marie (b. 1982), Lokkeberg has established a unique relationship between her personal life and her filmmaking, often working with her family. Known for innovative and often controversial films , the director brings a radical point of view and narrative skill to her projects.
