It is an “encyclopedia” documentary, divided into three acts, each dealing with a single subject: animals, plants, stones. The film is a tribute to those “unknown” and in some ways truly alien worlds, made up of animals, plants and minerals, that we too often take for granted, but with which we should be in constant dialogue since they constitute the essential part of our existence on planet Earth. Closely interconnected, the acts of the film draw a unique dramaturgical development through three different staging devices.

Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti in 2007 made I promessi sposi together, which was presented at the Locarno Film Festival in ‘Ici & Ailleurs’ and won awards at the Festival dei Popoli in Florence and at Filmmaker Film Festival in Milan. In 2009 Grandi speranza also had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in ‘Ici & Ailleurs.’ In 2011 Il castello, selected in many international festivals (among others Cinema du Reel, Nyon; Hot Docs, Toronto; EIDF, Seoul; RIDM, Montreal;), was awarded at Hot Docs, Toronto with the Special Jury Prize and at EIDF, Seoul with the same award, at the IDA Awards in Los Angeles with the Best Cinematography Award, at the Torino Film Festival with the Special Jury Prize Italiana.doc and with Premio Avanti and in many more festivals. In 2013 Materia Oscura won the Corso Salani Award for Best Work in Progress, was presented at the Berlinale (Forum) and began a long festival run, receiving several awards. In 2015 L’Infinita Fabbrica del Duomo premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and was subsequently distributed by Lab80.
In 2016 Spira Mirabilis had its premiere in official competition at the Venice Film Festival and then in major international festivals. It is distributed in Italy by IWonder and worldwide by The Match Factory. In 2018 the short film Blu, co-produced with Rai Cinema had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 75.
In 2020 Guerra e pace premiered in the Orizzonti Competition during the Venice International Film Festival 77.It is distributed internationally by Taskovskj Films.
