A pornographic film shot at the beginning of the 20th century slides laterally towards the outside of the frame. Shortly before reaching the edge, the outer fringe of the film starts to repeat itself in successive strips until it fills the screen once again, thus generating a new image, on the verge of abstraction. The film is conceived as a diptych in which each part results from the repetition of one or the other edge of the original movie. The two parts can be viewed either one after the other, in any order, or simultaneously, on two screens. Based in France, Alexis Moreano Banda (Ecuador, 1971) is a video artist, film editor and arts researcher. His most recent works include the films Cada trozo, cada ganglioandGhosts Before Breakfastboth made in 2023 from archival footage for the eponymous work of composers Fernando Garnero and Sebastián Rivas, respectively, as well as the experimental shortGorgôco-directed with artist Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza. He is currently preparing his first feature film, Carmen, an essay halfway between fiction and documentary, also co-directed with Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza.
