The short films that make up the program Images on the Front Line aim to challenge dominant visual representations, questioning the power structures that influence how we perceive reality. Surrounded by cliché-images, as Deleuze explains, we are forced to see what we “must” see, rather than what we “could” see. This program seeks to free images from the imposed stereotypes and reconfigure our perception of the world.
Far from being mere passive representations, the images in this program are presented as spaces of resistance. Each short adopts a critical stance against dominant narratives, using editing and visual dissonance to subvert hegemonic discourses on colonialism, identity, violence, and historical memory. Through these pieces and experiences, in which images are presented in their materiality, placing the viewer in a position to perceive their scars, the creators seek to give voice to those who have been silenced, transforming the images into acts of resistance that not only represent but also fight, question, and reconfigure the established order.
