Between 1985 and 1987, American journalist Edward Serotta visited the Socialist Republic of Romania, where he documented through his photographs the harsh reality of the dictatorship of Ceaușescu. During his stay, the Securitate, the Romanian secret police, secretly stalks and photographs him. Forty years later, Jude and Cioflâncā compare the two sets of images: a field-counterpoint that tells the most comic aspect of History.

Radu Jude
Radu Jude is a Romanian director and screenwriter, known for his irreverent and unconventional exploration of themes such as history, memory and identity. Among his films: The Happiest Girl in the World (2009), Everybody in Our Family (2012), Aferim! (2015), Scarred Hearts (2016), I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians (2018), Uppercase Print (2020), Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021, Golden Bear in Berlin), Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (2023), Kontinental ’25 (2025) e Dracula (2025).
Adrian Cioflâncā
Adrian Cioflâncā is a Romanian historian whose work focuses on the study of the Holocaust, communism and political violence. He is director of the Wilhelm Filderman Center for the Study of Jewish History in Romania and a member of the Collegium of the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives. A former consultant on several films and plays for Romanian public TV, he has co-directed three films with Radu Jude: The Exit of the Trains (2020), Memories from the Eastern Front (2022) and Reverse Shot (2026).
