The Italian and world “Sessantotto” represents an extremely complex and multifaceted event. The director attempts to unravel some of the main threads of an intricate skein of events, characters, processes, and cultures. From the first signs of the new youth engagement in 1966 to 1969, the narrative proceeds non-chronologically moving on the thread of emotion as well as that of historical reconstruction. The film is organized under more than 20 headings, from ““Alluvione” to “Uno di noi”, through  “Buoni”, “Cattivi”, “Consumismo”, “Contestazione” until  “Fiaba”, “Fiat”, “Neri”, “Polizia” and many more. In this sort of dictionary of ’68, some crucial events of that historical period are traced: from the first occupations of the universities to the battle of Valle Giulia, from the French May to the American black uprisings, from the anti-imperialist struggles to the dogmatism of Marxist-Leninist groups – demonstrating by waving the “little red book,” from police repression to the debate among intellectuals.

È stato uno dei momenti più felici e più strazianti della mia vita. Per questo mi sono avvicinato ai materiali che raccontano quegli anni con emozione e inquietudine. Per questo dovendo trovare un qualche filo logico tra quelle immagini e quei suoni, ho subito pensato di ricorrere all’ordine alfabetico, il metodo di classificazione più elementare e. almeno apparentemente – il più neutro. Per difendermi, per non recriminare, per non rimpiangere, Forse anche per non riflettere. Ecco qualcosa che un militante del sessantotto non mi avrebbe mai perdonato.
