Maryam fled Iran at the age of 20: the revolution had just triumphed, her politically active friends had been imprisoned or executed. She never returned. In Iran Maryam has surveillance cameras installed throughout the house where her parents still live; a flickering connection to the past, projected on a screen in her American home. When the Internet in Iran goes down and the images freeze or fade away, Maryam’s connection to her homeland is severed. Past and present merge and blur into a story of exile, memory and hidden ties to places to which it is no longer possible to return – places that can only be visited in dreams, through technology and nostalgia.

Morteza Ahmadvand
Morteza Ahmadvand is a Tehran-based multimedia artist and filmmaker, born in Khorramabad, Iran. He holds a Master’s degree in Painting from Tehran University. Trained in painting and sculpture, his practice has evolved into video art and installations, keeping visible traces of his painting origins. Over the past decade, his work has explored the intersection of visual art and film, addressing themes such as identity, memory and cultural coexistence.
Firouzeh Khosrovani
Firouzeh Khosrovani, born in Tehran, graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Milan, in 2002. Back in Iran, she earned a Master’s degree in Journalism and collaborated with several Italian newspapers and magazines. Her journey in documentary filmmaking began in 2004 with Life Train. Her acclaimed Radiograph of a Family (2020) won 34 awards, including two at IDFA.
